New Church Plant in Český Krumlov

For years many have been praying for what would be the second church to be planted in southern Bohemia. Most have thought Český Krumlov was a perfect location, and we at ABWE have agreed. It is a significant city located reasonably close to the ministry in Česke Budejovice, which could be of help and encouragement.

The church plant is in the praying and planning stage, yet one couple, Milan and Misha Pis, have stepped forward with an interest in helping start the plant. Milan has been instrumental in helping with various other ministries including The Open Door Club and The Baptist Church of Budejovice. He is dedicated to working in Krumlov, building relationships with the local community and even the local schools. Milan and Misha are instrumental in helping spread the word concerning upcoming events and studies that are taking place in Ceske Krumlov. It is their desire to see a church grow out of what is currently a small Bible study held in the office of The Open Door Club. The Club is also a place where frequent English classes are held as part of an outreach to the surrounding area. A large part of breaking into a new community involves building relationships with the people and we believe God has been opening many doors in this area. There are many more plans that need to be made before this new plant can come to fruition but we have faith that God will send partners and the capabilities to see this project through to the end.

As of recently, many advancements have been made toward this goal of reaching the community of Krumlov. There are still more steps to take towards reaching our goal but we hope that you will continue to pray for the community of Ceske Krumlov and our place in which we should have in this area. We pray that God will give us the discernment and direction that we will need in order to go forward with more plans for the church plant.

How Can You Help?
-We need to recruit a Short term partner from the states to work full time with this ministry in Krumlov.
-We need to develop a sister church relationship with stateside church to help with accountability and financial support.
-We need Summer TEFL teachers (July 2009) for 2-3 week church plant.

Biblical Theoligical Seminary
Biblical Theological Seminary

Currently in the Czech Republic there are 36 Baptist Churches and 30 pastors. Not only can we not start new churches, we can’t even get enough pastors to cover the ones we have. Compounding the problem, in the next 5 years, many of these pastors who are aging will be forced to retire. So we are in a leadership crisis. We had been discussing for the last few years what to do to start a Czech Baptist Seminary and one man in particular, Vlada Donat Jr. (son of our national partner), began to develop a burden for it. Vlada has returned from the States with a MDiv. from Southeastern Seminary, with his wife Eliska, and is now fully prepared to lead this new venture. He serves as Director of the Seminary as well as the primary teacher. Currently the school depends on outside, adjunct faculty for a number of the courses.

The facility is strategically located northwest of Ceske Budejovice in a town called Pehlrimov, which has no church, but will be a part of our strategy there. The Biblical Theological Seminary opened in the Fall of 2007, currently with seven students enrolled. The students live on-campus and take classes such as Baptist History, Hebrew, Greek, Old and New Testament, Pastoral Epistles, Intensive English, and other various Bible classes.

It has been exciting to watch God work in this, to see others desiring to be a part, and to see the physical progress. Yet many projects still need to be done. As of right now, we are looking to raise $75,000 to finish the current building and then to begin raising support for a new building. Our goal is to add on classrooms, storage rooms, dorm rooms, and more meeting spaces for general use.

Besides the construction a lot of work still has to go into securing more instructors for each of the courses as well as recruiting more students for the school. Needs for Biblical Theological Seminary
-Recruiting a short term partner to assist in the teaching at the seminary as well as the church plant.
-Finances for finishing the building ($100,000) as well as monthly support for our national partners, Vlada and Elishka Donat.
